Lay your 3 tab or other roofing material on the roof of the dog house. Fasten the 1 by 6 trim around the roof. Building an off grid home in the canadian wilderness. Cover the surface with tar paper and secure it into place with staples.

Leave the trim off of the back for drainage. Run the first row of shingles upside down along the bottom edge of the roof using short roofing nails to hold it in place. Staple felt paper in between the 1 by 6 trim. For better waterproofing consider using rubber roofing material and apply it to the plywood with construction adhesive. Use inch tacks or nails to secure the paper. If you ve chosen to put down tar paper or other material underneath shingles put it down. To keep the dog house extra dry you can cover the entire roof with asphalt impregnated roofing paper or tar paper. Create a sturdier roof.
