Removing Moss From Clay Roof Tiles

You can also attach a soft bristle brush to a long extendable pole if you have one so you can reach a lot further. Before cleaning the roof tiles one uses a high pressure cleaner with a dirt blaster. When moss grows in under and around your roof tiles it actually acts as a filler. Most roof cleaning products require at least 20 minutes for it to absorb into the moss.

Try using a long handled brush and be careful when walking atop your roof. Moss can be removed from roof tiles by gently brushing it off if the growth is not too severe. As you did in the previous step walk backwards when you are spraying away from the wet tiles and onto the dry ones. Use a standard bristle scrub brush on a pole and push the brush down the roof to tear the moss s shallow root system from the shingles. It is not recommended to remove moss by pressure washing as this can force water into the roof space particularly if sprayed upward from ground level. Aim for the top of the roof and spray the entire length of the roof.

The chemical will flow over the clay tiles as well as under them to the base of the roof. This is done from top to bottom in order to avoid water under the tiles. Spraying moss with a toxic wash a toxic wash solution can be used to wash the roof although care must be taken as the solution can be harmful to plants and animals. This will remove all the moss and lichen as well as any built up dirt.

Turn the pressure washer down to low and spray the entire clay tile roof. Continue spraying across the one side. Moss can also be removed by using a stiff brush and some water to aid it. Whilst a mossy roof might not be aesthetically pleasing you could end up in a lot more trouble should you decide to remove the spongy green invader from your roof tiles.

Then use a long handled soft bristle scrub brush to remove the moss from the roof scrubbing from the top down to avoid lifting. Destroy the moss and those tiles that were.
