If there is no supporting wall or rock within 6 tiles no roof will be built.
Rimworld roofs not being built.
I tried roofing over the geothermal buildings but when i dezoned it it just went from unroofed to outdoors.
A roof will collapse if the last supporting wall or rock is removed whether by mining deconstruction or destruction.
If it s an overhead mountain collapsing colonists will be buried alive.

Built roofs come crashing down but the dark spots are all i m given with cleared mountain space.

There is a chance if the colonist is tired they may go to sleep on the floor if it is not their room with a bed in it so you may want to make sure you are using a colonist with a decently full rest meter.
Roof collapses cause injuries to colonists and damage items.

On the left grid square you have the vertical line of walls along the left edge within 6 tiles supporting the center and on the right grid square you have the horizontal line of walls along the top right corner within 6 tiles.
Designating such an area will also remove existing thin roofs and thin rock roofs when applied but thick rock roofs will remain intact.
Walls support roofs in a circular area around themselves with a radius of 6 tiles 4 on the diagonal.
If that distance is more then that then you will only get a partial roof around everywhere but the position where it lacks enough support 2 roof construction is a low priority.
The no roof area allows the player to designate an area which will not be covered by thin roofing once a surrounding wall is constructed.

Drawing a remove roof zone will cause colonists to remove a constructed roof.
This also means your constructor will deconstruct any existing roof.

By default colonists only build roofs over enclosed spaces rooms.
A roof will not be fully built in a room that is more then 11 blocks between two parallel sides.
